New fire engine for San Miguel
2009 Ferrara triple combination fire pumper; 1500 GPM pump capacity; 750 gallon water tank; fully enclosed 6 person cab; interior ladder storage; 30 gallon foam tank.

Fire Chief Roland Snow and Firefighter Kelly Dodds, drove home the San Miguel Fire Department's new fire engine from the factory in Holden, Louisiana arriving home April 9, 2010.

The fire engine is a custom built 2009 Ferrara Triple combination fire pumper. It was built on a Spartan Chassis, capable of pumping 1500 gallons per minute. It has a 750 gallon water tank, a 30 gallon foam tank, interior ladder storage and a full enclosed six person cab.

Fire personnel are busy training on the new equipment. The engine will become integral in structural firefighting. The engine made its debut to the community in the Sagebrush Days Parade.

According to CSD General Manager Mike Ellison, the engine cost an estimated $288,000 to be financed out through 2014. Originally the district was preparing to purchase an engine in 2014 but the financing came together this year. "We calculated that we would get a really good rate on the financing," Ellison said. "This engine is a first opportunity San Miguel has had to buy or to acquire a good frontline structure firefighting engine."

The San Miguel Community Services District [CSD] Board of Directors recently adopted resolutions honoring two of the community's volunteer firefighters.

The resolutions, adopted during the board's regular meeting held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 honored San Miguel Fire Apparatus Engineer Kenneth Smith as firefighter of the year.

The San Miguel CSD board of directors honored volunteer firefighter Gilbert Celedon for meritorious action, while off duty at a traffic collision encountered while he was going to work.

According to a media release, Celedon took quick action by crawling into a vehicle and established an airway on a trapped victim and continued to provide aid until the arrival of paramedics and other firefighters. - Paso Robles Press Staff report

In April 2007, volunteer Firefighters enjoyed their new ride, a fire engine pumper track that can hold 400 gallons of water. The fire engine was built by Ferrara Fire in Louisiana.
